Ten geezerhood ago I launched my daily horticulture blog .
It did n’t set out as “ The Survival Gardener ; ” instead , it launched as “ Florida Survival Gardening , ” which I later exchange as my writing and readers grew beyond the borders of the Sunshine State .
For the first three class , I stake a new mail every day . Later , I skipped weekends . Then , even later , we had disruptions ( like being locked down overseas ) which keep me from posting at all for as much as a week or more at a time . But I never give up .

When I pop the blog , I was live on in North Florida and make a food forest . This is me back then :
And here I am now , 10 years , 12 gardening books , 2532 station and 4 more child later :
Naw , I do n’t look tired at all ! I ’m just getting embark on .

In the last ten years , we moved overseas and back , bought land and sold landed estate , rented too many times , and finally ended up on some Din Land of our own in Lower Alabama .
I start this blog to write about my horticulture thought and methods and gather a pursual over time so when I wrote a book , I would have a built - in consultation . Posting daily was a way to ensure it happened .
conjunctive effort over meter !

That was the mind , and it ran counter to my raw tendency to plunge and then desert projects .
After the first calendar month of posting I fell into a rut and it became easier to stay .
The first book I give up was the little booklet version ofCreate Your Own Florida Food Forest .

Much to my delight , it sold about $ 200 worth of copies in the first calendar month . And then … it kept on marketing , slow but regularly . It would never make me rich , but it did devote my net bill .
My book of account - writing life history was launch .
After that , I started fetch up Quran projects in quick succession . Here they are by year :

The Future
Getting our own theater and land last month should help immensely , as we can now establish recollective - condition projects . I am very concerned in multiply young corn and Cucurbita pepo miscellanea for Lower Alabama , as well as in expanding my Grocery quarrel Gardening idea and note it long - terminus . I ’d also care to engraft a skillful kitchen / herbaceous plant / medicinal garden out back , and experiment with growing terrifying death hedges to take out the great unwashed and animals from our land . I ’d also wish to plant a prissy , giving food timberland in the front yard , and plant a bunch of different varieties of apples .
All these things would n’t have happened without you guys , though . Many mass found my writing and buy my book , which take into account me to go from a free - fizgig author , house painter and audio editor to being a full - time horticulture author and YouTuber .
Thank you . It ’s been an amazing ten old age . My finish was agnise , and I am grateful . God is good and has kept us and allowed me to pursue a track that is truly fulfilling . It require a lot of concentrated work to get here ( In my twenty I could n’t imagine drop a line a post every 24-hour interval , rent alone finishing a book or more a yr ! ) , but I made it . My wife believed in me , too , and that made a vast difference .

Here ’s to another ten years of TheSurvivalGardener.com !
