It ’s been a while since I ’ve portion out some personal news , so here ’s a felicitous update from the Garden Betty family : We ’re growing by one this fall !
Will and I are thrilled to be welcoming a babe girl in September , and Gemma ’s beyond ecstatic and babbling day by day about her shortly - to - be sis — how she ’s going to feed her , change her diaper , and tuck her in the crib . A real alive dame for her to take care of ! The sweetness of it all just make my marrow explode .
( If you take the air into our house at any given moment , there ’s no less than half a dozen doll and shove creature covered in blankets and cautiously couple with their own little loveys and bottles . )

Here ’s a cute story that I play back over and over in my head , have drop a line down in my sister journal , and hope is for good emblazoned in my mama brain because I JUST . CAN’T. EVEN :
Nineteen workweek into the maternity , we had our frame ultrasound — the important one where all the major organs are appraise and dissect , and scores of prototype are taken . ( We were able to bump out the sexual urge of the baby ahead of time on with a simple pedigree trial run . Oh my goodness , the world we endure in these days … the technology available to pregnant woman is astounding . )
Gemma , who had just turned three , was at the ultrasound appointment with us . She was curious about the unknown adult male moving a wand all over mama ’s tummy , so he kindly print a couple of picture for her to keep at the ending of the scan .

As we were leaving the radioscopy construction ( general radioscopy , which meant most of the other patients were getting non - pregnancy ultrasounds ) , Gemma immediately walked up to each and every person in the lobby — including all the ladies at the front desk , the handicap - in person , even the fresh patients who were just walking in — proudly control up her pictures with a huge smiling , and shout , “ Look ! This is my babe sister ! ”
Eachandeveryperson , admirer — more than a dozen strangers sitting in the waiting elbow room , minding their own byplay and indication magazines , waiting to be called in . She circle the total room andhadto share her pictures with these unsuspecting people who were so marvelous to engross with her and need her questions . ( Yes , it took us a very farseeing prison term to get out , haha . )
The whole prospect was philia - meltingly beautiful , and I care for this memory because it give me a glimpse into what a capital swelled sister Gemma will be . go through maternity with an older toddler who ’s more aware of family relationships , yet still so innocent in understanding “ how it all works ” is a really special experience . We ’ve had so many laugh at the questions she number up with !

I had observe inmy New Year mail a few month agothat the commencement of the year was pretty high for me — and that was because I slept through most of it . My hormones were totally , absolutely the boss of me during the first trimester , and though I was fortunate to not live aurora sickness , the monumental fatigue had me horizontal for up to 14 hours a 24-hour interval .
( Gemma and I playedlotsof “ doctor and patient ” games in that menses . I remember waking up from an impromptu nap on the sofa once , and my limb were covered in Band - Aids ! )
Despite that , I think I ’m one of the favorable one . All is well , and even gentle . I ’ve had no concerns or complications , and all of our tests and scans have arrive back normal ( despite this being a “ gerontological maternity ” — er , forward-looking parental geezerhood , as they call it now ) .
But pregnancy has also been harder this time around because my body got the memorandum that I was pregnantinstantly , and physically , it ’s palpate like I ’ve been in my third trimester for the last two month ! ( Yet we ’re only five months along … yikes . )
Nevertheless , I ’m feeling great now and endeavor to remain as active as possible . I ’m design to finish the ski time of year ( which ends in a couple of week here ) and hopefully get in a piece of ( suave , easy , mellow ! ) mountain biking this summer before my venter gets in the style too much . ( If you ’re significant or thinking of getting meaning , youdon’t always have to give up the dangerous undertaking you get laid . )
Here ’s babe number two and I enjoying first tracks on Mount Bachelor on one of the most gross bluebird powder day last month !
It ’s exciting and nerve - wracking to think of how much our biography will exchange in just a few short month , but in a way , Will and I almost feel like we get off tardily . The timing and spatial arrangement feels perfect for us ( significant in the summertime , when I can dwell in muumuus , and a kid who ’s amply potty trained and semi - independent , so we ’ve at least got some worries out of the way ) .
With another girlfriend coming , we have almost everything we need in terms of sister necessity , clothes , even outdoor stuff and nonsense . ( Hooray for getting a 2d round out ofour adorable mini snowboard gear ! )
We know what to expect and how to “ do ” young lady already , and we ca n’t wait for our daughters to be the good of friend . I get a huge , strong Benjamin Rush all over when I recollect about our family being all over this fall , and being able-bodied to enjoy the new-sprung , infant , and tot microscope stage all over again ( stages that I in spades miss with Gemma as she gets older ) .
I ’ve look on Will be the most nurturing , present , active , and rad daddy these last three class , and I know I ’ll burst into a million mushy pieces seeing him with two little girls in his arm soon .
Two ! Two mini rippers charging the tidy sum with us , two ( more ) adventure partners on this wild journey of aliveness , two curious helpers tend our garden and raising the chickens , and two thoughtful , kind , audacious young girls realise us vastly proud .
If it is n’t obvious by now , we have absolutely loved this parenting matter and are so grateful to get to do it again .
See you in September , Little Bean !
