2013 - part of the fall honey harvest
This year I was able to glean ( 13 ) 5 oz jars of honey from my hive . This was from the same beehive that went on sharp decline in June when I lose my queen regnant ( she go away ) and I had to re - tabby for the beehive to outlast . I had bought a raw queen to seek to save the hive and the remaining bees in the beehive had her lay an egg in a female monarch cellular phone they build and then raise their own queer and obliterate the queen mole rat I bought . Oh cruel world ! But they cognise better , as the queen they raise has been an unbelievable egg layer and impart the hive back from the brink of disaster . ( see story here )
Which lend me to my crop . The hive with her leading , come back from 2 cake with barely any bee on them to 17 bars loaded with brood and beloved - and all since June which is phenomenal ! The rule for beekeepers is to always go forth enough beloved for the bee to get through winter and then we harvest the rest . In our cold clime in Santa Fe , my teacher , Les Crowdersays we should get out 12 bars of brood and honey for them to get through winter but I left 14 bars this yr in eccentric we have a farseeing winter , harvest home 3 bar of honey only . If they do n’t use it all , I can take the dearest after the flowers come in spring ( assuming the heyday do come ) .

This is last year ’s love in 2012 . It was light than this yr ’s dear .
This twelvemonth ’s vividness was very different from last year . Last year we did n’t get a lot of flowers because of the drought and I had to feed them some sugar - water system to the ending of August to subsidise them and the dear I glean was very calorie-free in color because we only got mainly chamisa flowers in the tumble . This class I fed them a little in spring but halt once the rainfall came and we had many dissimilar flowers all summer than the previous year which resulted in an gold colored beloved with slenderly hard gustatory perception than last year on my property .
2013 - Here is my love on the left field , Sara ’s dear in the centre and Bob ’s honey on the right

This is last year’s honey in 2012. It was lighter than this year’s honey.
It ’s interesting because my friend Sara had promiscuous - colored honey this twelvemonth while another friend , Bob had darker honey - even dark than mine so where you be , even in Santa Fe , can affect what your honey will be like . We like to trade so we can taste each others honey to see how they differ .
