With the cool Sunday dayspring last weekend , I frantically rationalise , weeded , evaluated , and planned . It ’s about time to cram in a lot of work after work . Between jotting notes and researching plants , I checked the conditions news report .
As it clouded over Sunday evening , we put Harvey in his pen for some play before the rainfall started . Greg move it the 24-hour interval before to distribute the poop . Chester went over to say hello .
Then the rain spurned us , decrease on our Central Texas neighbors , which was dependable , but the only wet for us was the tears in my eyes when the Lord’s Day popped out on Monday . ultimately , 1″ get in in the nighttime , but after all the bang-up promises , it was sort of like anticipate a new ice yacht on Christmas and getting pajamas or else . On Tuesday evening , I held my breath as cloud suddenly wiped the smile off the sun .

Then came rainfall again , to renew my promise in Santa and the weather channel . Only 2/10″ , but at least I got to see it .
Through these past weeks of drought , a KLRU colleague , Rob , created his own “ water appeal system , ” a true recycle / reuse estimation !
I was surprised to memorise that on a summertime ’s day , we can collect five Imperial gallon of piss from the AC ’s abridgment pipe , enough to keep Rob ’s first straightforward - foot - garden innovation travel . Thanks for the melodic theme , Rob !

I was also surprised to ascertain this bloom , a fleer from the crepe Vinca minor , absorbed on making a thicket . The tree diagram itself turn a loss its luster early this year , but this guy ( designate to be dig out up ) showed me what he could do . I like gutsy industrial plant , so I ’ll see if transplanting will crop this winter .
Indoors , we get this surprise every summertime ( somehow they wander in ) . If you ever take the air into a dark way and see neon lights , it could be this one . My hall was so dingy that I had to use the photographic camera flash , so you ca n’t see the neon that well , but it ’s brighter than a dark - light !
I blow him up in my microbe void and return him safely outdoors . It ’s a click mallet , Pyrophorusnoctilucus . One night we encounter one climbing a limb outside , and in the darkness , it was like a wakeful show . The larvae are wireworm , which are passably destructive , but I figure a few of them are okay , since the adults are as fun as lightening bugs ( beetles ) .

Not so neon , but still a burnished light in summertime , are the ornamental peppers that seed a heap . presently they ’ll be orange and ruddy , and they do rather glow in the night .
Another glow - in - the - dark is a few blooms from oneTecoma stans(Esperanza ) along Amelia ’s fencing . Since these guys are getting too much ghost , they lean to be lanky , as well as late and lustreless in blooms . This fall , I plan to move one to former photinia - ville , and the other near the live - stain Mexican sunflower .
The half-pint plant near kiddie pool is well-chosen with its dappled shade .

Even at night , I can spot this clump of ruellia against the shed ’s entrance . So far , it stays inside its boundaries . If it casts its seeds into the lawn , they get cut down down .
This passionvine flower does n’t glow at night , but its intense fragrance make it gentle to find at any 60 minutes .
Soon , we enter “ boot camp for gardeners , ” since September starts our busy season , even if it ’s ordinarily hot as heck . And , starting next workweek , we ’ll have a raw season of CTG for you , to help you through the busy times .

Until next calendar week , Linda
