Garrett Eckbo , midcentury Southern California ’s gilded boy of landscape computer architecture , was live for his then - revolutionary mantra : “ Gardens are place in which people live out of doors . ” That melodic theme has , of course , spread throughout the universe — yet one of the sound examples of that philosophy has been hidden from the populace until just recently .

In 2010 , the Brody mansion in Holmby Hills , Los Angeles , came on the market for $ 24.95 million . For the first time , images of the 11,511 - square - human foot house on 2.3 acres of landscape holding were made public , give people a glimpse into one of Eckbo ’s unspoiled — and one of few still intact — residential projects .
The house had been commission by artistry - minded philanthropists Sidney and Frances Brody in 1949 . The Brodys move around to an all - whizz team of designer A.
