Favorites from red to yellow
January is a respectable fourth dimension to look back at other time in the garden , and today , with the wintertime cold and snow all around , I thought I ’d take a look at my favorite hot flowers — red ink , oranges , yellowness , fun colors to liven up the garden .
Coreopsisauriculata(Zones 4–9 ) is call the mouse - ear coreopsis for the small , obviously mouse capitulum – shaped leaves at the base of the plant life . But you have to love it for the masses of bright yellow - orangeness flower inlate spring to early summertime .
flaming azalea ( Rhododendronhybrids , Zones 5–9 ) are well named . While theevergreenspecies ( mostly native to Asia ) tend to flower in shade of pink , deciduous species ( most of the North American aborigine ) plain off the class in fiery shade of yellow , orangish , and ruby-red .

If you have a shaded garden in Zone 7 or warmer , you should be growing this hardy groundorchid , Calathe striata(Zones 7–10 ) , which has beautiful spacious leaves and kicks off bound with masses of intense yellow peak .
You are no doubt familiar with annualzinnias , but how about this wonderful perennial species , Zinniagrandiflora(Zones 5–9 ) ? Native to western North America , it boom in hot , ironical land site , spreading slowly to make a carpet and blooming all summer long with cheery yellow flower . safe drainage in wintertime is key to maximum winter lustiness .
Early in the spring , from little bulbs , comesCorydalissolida(Zones 5–9 ) . The godforsaken coinage is more of a pink purpleness , but red survival like this are sensational . It thrives inwoodlandconditions , give other colour to theshade garden .

Zauschneria(also known asEpilobium , Zones 5–9 ) is another mathematical group of plants that lovesdry soil . They might notoverwinterif they are too wet during the insensate months , but in the right site they fill the summertime with bright red flower much know byhummingbirds .
Nothing does red likepoppies ! This is the corn poppy ( Papaverrhoeas , yearly ) . Its display is often dead - live on , but it is beautiful while in bloom .
Native columbine ( Aquilegiacanadensis , Zones 3–8 ) has reddened - Orange River blooms in abundance . It will grow in light shade , but it bloom the enceinte with a little more sun . Individual plant tend to be a piffling abruptly - lived but will often self - sow when happy .

Butterfly grass ( Asclepiastuberosa , Zones 5–9 ) is often grown as a food source for monarch butterfly butterflies , but the blossom are fantastic no matter what . pasture from deep orange to white-livered , they are always gorgeous .
