In a Vase on Monday. Daffadowndillies.

I am unite in withCathy‘s meme this calendar week with a vase of   Narcissus pseudonarcissus from the woodlet . On a previous mail I have complained about the daffodils being such a interracial bunch of   big one rather than carpets of littleNarcissus pseudonarcissuslike the ones at Warley Place in Essex . OK , I have to take on to being a bit of a Narcissus pseudonarcissus prig ; I roll in the hay littleNarcissusand the ulterior Poet ’s Eye , Narcissus poeticusbut the big , blowzy I are a bit too Municipal Park to me . Besides , I do n’t know any of their names , and I hate not knowing the names of plants . But today , the sun is glitter and I took the metre to really look at them and I was surprised at how many different varieties there are . I picked one of each for my vase .

With the daffodils I usedForsythia , Skimmia japonicasubsp . ‘ Reevesiana ’   andCornus alba‘Sibirica ’ which has prissy greenish leave-taking now and needs cutting down anyway . The footling snatch willow catkin are from the lovelySalix purpurea‘Nancy Saunders ’ which is elegant and beautiful all twelvemonth around . Looking at them each singly , I have to admit they are all rather lovely . I finger deplorable that I have lived here for about 5 old age without appreciating them before . Here are a few of them .

Daffodowndilly . She wear out her yellow Dominicus - bonnet , She wore her immature gown; She turn over to the south windAnd curtsied up and down . She sprain to the sunlightAnd shook her yellow head , And whispered to her neighbour:‘Winter is dead . ‘A.A.Milne .

I love this Wiley Post and the little verse form … says it all for me . I also have so many diversity and do n’t experience their names either … .You have many that look familiar to me . I will see some blooming before long and ca n’t wait to amass bunches for vases . And the scent is amazing . Is n’t it queer how we view our garden differently once we bring the flower inside … thanks to Cathy .

I think we all tend to play down the flowers we did not plant . I am a daff snob , too , and only grow snowy ones ! But I think that look more closely helps one to apprise what one has . It certainly nicer not to be chafe when those flowers pop up but to be capable to enjoy them along with your own choices . I opine I am finally at that point , too .

They are gorgeous and your arrangement is very nice . Perhaps you could simply give them name as mass seldom commend what you tell them about flora names anyway . Let ’s see , how about N. ‘ Boadicea ’ , N. ‘ poof of Spring ’ , N. ‘ Vernal Cheer ’ , N. ‘ Prozac ’ , etc . well-chosen new calendar week !

Your municipal gardens and ours are very different place indeed ! Your Narcissus collection is absolutely grand and I love the combining your make this week . I ’d like to have a broader variety in my own garden – I must remember that when it come time to order pass bulbs . Unlike tulip , daffodils fare relatively well here , even with our ever drier get condition .
