Landscape “architecture” for everybody!
Often people require me : what IS landscape painting computer architecture ? So , this week , we ’re thrilled to deliver Ixchel Granada and Aaron Kotwal , Texas A&M University landscape architecture students .
Enthusiastic , self-examining and tremendously farsighted , they ’ve got their hands on the future as they evidence us how they ’re integrating the built and natural environment . watch out now .
surely , one thing they face in their career is water retention and flood direction . Here ’s a childlike idea CTG discovered in authorHelen Thomson ’s gardendesigned byPatrick Kirwin : a rill contract into lawn ( or through garden beds ) .

And then , how do we get from here to there ? Last capitulation , I stepped into two delightful designs on a San Antonio tour confront by theGardening Volunteers of South Texas . Both allow water to stay on website .
As landscape painting architects , Ixchel and Aaron will count how works interface with architectural construction and site shape . On the SA tour , I ran into this simple array of foxtail fern that complement a semi - shadowy exterior wall . Gravel allow any overspill to gently slump in .
Tom Poth ’s path and patio in Austin understandably specify spaces and direction while pleasing different plant need . Again , gravel work as rainfall retention .

Another hardheaded thoughtfulness : hiding things . Here ’s a homemade figure I spotted on an east Austin tour of duty to brawl flashy view .
Speaking of hiding , what about all that stuff and nonsense we ’ve squeeze behind the shed ? Since I get laid we are ALL about to embark on the annual shed inside and out cleanup , what about a cute wall with remnant limestone chop blocks to show off our containers ?
I reckon there are just three gardeners in the country without a stash of clinker blockage . peck up some stucco mix , swirl in some rouge , and bingo : a lush planter !

Now , this stucco wall enclosing an outdoor life elbow room is rather glamorous , but nurseryman never lack for ingenuity !
On a more pocket-sized scale , a few prosperous finds grow our patios into truly reflective spots to land .
keep architecture lets us frame our spaces and vantage point .

Structural aboriginal Mexican plum , Daphne ’s Plant of the Week , is also among the first to bloom in February . Since it only grows to about 25 ’ improbable and spacious , it ’s enceinte for small gardens or accents .
Its knobby bark always stake , but I ’m on the countdown for mine to break into fragrant snowy flowers . Within moment , it ’s a hive of activity . Find out more .
Over the next several weekend , my wild and sick garden will get a little more structural as I whack back perennials and later , grasses . This week , John Dromgoole illustrates a few technique , like for ornamental grasses .

In sculpture our land , we point urine , give it artistic observance , and personalize our connexion . On tour , landscape painting architect Curt Arnettepulled it all together in this refurbishment .
To take over water supply and provide aura down into live oak tree roots , he designed the driveway with concrete pads grouted with gravel .
The folk want to match their home plate ’s resourceful blueprint with as resourceful plants . Curbside , Curt layer low - water plants for play , including incessant evergreens and seasonal intellectual nourishment for wildlife .

Architectural shoe lace acacia anchor this section of the garden .
“ Plants are something that draw multitude out and create an emotional answer . And it gain them feel good , ” he tells us .
Throughout , he terraced the craggy land site to give up the family ’s engagement .

They left a mass of the holding to its natural wildlife twist , just supplementing its diverseness .
That ’s just the “ laggard ” to this story , so see the whole thing now !
Thanks for break by ! See you next calendar week , Linda
