Ribes laurifolium.
Ribes laurifolium
If your theme of a Flowering Currant is the ubiquitousRibes sanguineumwhich is to be see in well-nigh every suburban garden along withForsythia , then you may be surprised at this lovelyRibes . I am not knocking the commonly seen Flowering Currant , I cerebrate it is a welcome signal of spring . I do n’t even mind the smell which many people object to ; it takes me straight back to my puerility .

I have to say though , I much preferRibes laurifolium . Itstarts flowering much earlier than the pink one . it has a very light bouquet , and what makes it a winner in my middle are the creamy green flowers . I can never withstand light-green flowers . It does n’t grow more than about a m gamy but it grows outwards to make a fair sized bush . Wherever the branches rest on the terra firma it roots itself so you always have bits to give away to friends . The leaves as the name suggest look a minute like small laurel leaves but they are not so tough or so shiny .
If you want Charles Edward Berry you have to get a male person and a female form of the bush or else the Hermaphrodite : ‘ Rosemoor cast ’ . I have never peculiarly acknowledge the berries so I have not nark to do this . ‘ Amy Doncaster ’ is supposed to be a particularly good form and more floriferous but I ca n’t see much difference between any of them .
In a succeeding Wiley Post I will write about a few otherRibesthat I grow but now I want to give you a quick update on myNarcissus minor”Cedric Morris ’ that I write a post about on6th Januarywhen it first pop to flower .

Finally , you ’ve probably note that I have changed my header at last . My Word has being telling me for age to get rid of the photo of the manky primrose . In my defence , I have to say that I put up that photo in the other days of my web log and I was n’t wearing my spectacles at the time . I did n’t realise the primroses had foul spots on them . Anyway I was talking mainly to myself at the time so it did n’t really weigh . But now for you kind masses who follow me despite the mouldy primroses I have adjudicate I really should put up something more appealing as a coping . I was ghastly of the raft of it myself .
I think it would be really complicated changing the header or I would have done it ages ago . Actually it is really well-fixed . So from now on I shall be interchange it all the sentence as the time of year go on . Unless my endearing son will take a photo of the garden for me that is so wonderful I will never need to change it . ( A gentle pinch but probably falling on deaf ear as he has better things to do than read his mother ’s blog . )

What a lovely new heading photo , that ’s one of your Hellebores with a history , is n’t it ? I have lots of Ribes sanguineum , I love them as they are a PNW native shrub which of form sleep together the conditions in my PNW garden . But the flowers on the R. laurifolium are lovely , and I ’m in favour of anything that blooms early .
This Narcissus minor ” Cedric Morris ’ is simply amazing!I do n’t have any ornamental genus Ribes but I have scads of currants . Perhaps I should add a few because I have comment that the hum bird peculiarly like currant flowers . These flowers are really insignificant but when in bloom they are buzzing with hum birdie .
Oh Chloris I do so like the idea of a lovely industrial plant that so considerately roots itself so that you could pass it along to acquaintance 🙂 I think that I could find oneself room for genus Ribes laurifolium in my garden . Have only ever develop genus Ribes sanguineum . It ’s interesting to see how unlike the foliage is between the two plants . I care your new heading but have to confess to having never noted patch on the primrose but maybe I was n’t wearing my spec either .
