SixOnSaturday
sense festive yet ? thing turned wintry here at the first of this week , with David Low of -9 ° degree Celsius on Monday night . Brrr ! We had a few atomic number 96 of snow on Sunday , all gone by mid - week , but enough for the kid to take themselves off sledging . It ’s expect to be a slightly more clement 5 or 6 ° c this weekend , jolly gardening weather .
Anyhow , it ’s time for Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a favourite flora , a line of work completed , wildlife , programme , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this week .
1 . Compost worms . I twist the lot the other Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , extracting as I go a good amount of finished compost . I was pleased to see a lot of wiggly worm action in the heap – a just sign . They do a batch of the study , munch away at my garden and kitchen waste matter .
2 . Greenhouse pellies . I ’m aware this class more than others that I do n’t have much in the way of wintertime color . In some way I do n’t bear in mind this , wintertime is the off - season , a chance to prepare for the three season of hoped - for interest . This pellie , an anonymous potpourri , is officious flower away in its wintertime quarters . Despite the chill earlier in the week , it is still plot .

3 . Eryngium family . Earlier in the year I have some theme cuttings of a long drop off genus Eryngium or ocean holly plant . The cuttings have root , and the parent plant has pick up up , having look highly unamused by being parry out by a rampaging solidago . I ’ll plant that out in the leap , and I hope the offspring will be happy enough in this lot till the spring when I can pot them on .
4 . Planter . I ’ve made several of these planters over the last few years . They are made from trash wood , usually older pallets . This one lives on the patio and look bare at the moment , having been stripped of past - it annuals last weekend . I am almost sure it has tulip incarcerated in the depths , stripy ones , I go for to see them return in a few month .
5 . Snowman . It ’s not looking its good now , but in brief after construction it expect like this . Who does n’t have intercourse a snowman ? I claim no credit , totally the employment of # 4 child .

6 . cornu sanguinea “ midwinter flaming ” . I have two of these , both grown from runners from a neighbor ’s shrub . This is their 2nd year in my possession , planted out to begin with this class . They are knee high at the moment and look a bit rubbish , shapeless . I am itching to give them a skillful haircut in other natural spring , to promote gowth , but for now I ’ll enjoy their potential . I like the fluctuation in the stem colour , which unlike the cornus mas alba is not manifestly red , but grade of sensationalistic and orange – what # 2 child , skillful nail - polisher , would no doubt line as an “ ombre ” . I am carry better from this bush next yr , else it ’s for the shredder !
