One year later, a garden project has grown and provided for pollinators as well as the gardener
Hi GPODers !
Today we ’re getting an exciting update on a projection we saw the very beginning of last year . Nicki Snoblin decided to remove some of her front yard to create a layer for pollinator - friendly perennial . She shared the beginning process and earliest planting here : Nicki ’s New Garden Project(but Nicki has shared photos several times in the past so be sure to check out other parts of her garden in : Nicki ’s Indoor Garden , Fall in Nicki ’s Garden , andNew Garden root on by the GPOD ) .
Today we finally get to see how this first yr of growth went for Nicki , how thing are looking , the deterrent example she ’s learned , and what she is looking to do next .

Last year I post in photos of a new garden I was creating in my front grounds , hoping to make more full - sunlight planting blank space and attract pollinators . Now I ’d like to partake some picture to show how it ’s doing this year .
It was thrilling this spring to see most of the things I planted set about hail up . Overall , I ’m please , but there are a few mysteries . Why ca n’t I keep butterfly stroke weed alert ? What ’s causing some of the anise hyssop flora to give-up the ghost and others to prosper ? Why do deer tiptoe through the garden and nibble just certain plants over and over and not touch the others ? Who invented Japanese beetle , and why ?
In May , several thumping of whiskered iris were in bloom , along with catmint ( upper left ) and false indigo plant . After blossom , the assumed indigo plant turned into gigantic shrub . I cut them back by about a third , but eventually I may have to move one of them .

In June , the sea holly(Eryngium×zabelii‘Big Blue ’ , zona 5–9)bloomed spectacularly . unluckily , immediately after , it died down to the ground . I do n’t have in high spirits hope for it for next year ; it really does n’t wish our hard grease .
Sea holly with catmint , monarda , and some carmine - orange coneflower that I ’m really loving .
Clematis‘Rooguchi’(Zones 5–9)in bud .

Endless Summer ® hydrangea(Hydrangea macrophylla‘Bailmer ’ , Zones 4–9)along with a pale blue spiderwort that offer here . I have no estimate where it derive from , since all my other spiderworts are gloomy blue - volet .
The view from the side . In the background on the right you may see Tiny Tuff Stuff ™ hydrangea(Hydrangea serrata‘MAKD ’ , Zones 5–9)in bloom .
This is what we see when we walk out the front door .

Two sort of coneflower and some lowly hosta with lavender heyday and pallid greenish leaves ( the leaves are bleached from too much sun – I need to move those over to the shady part of the layer ) .
The scene from the street side . It ’s not as colorful as I would like – I ’ll have to work on that .
The persuasion from the upstairs window render the design .

Thank you for share this update with us , Nicki . It ’s incredible to see your front yard completely transformed , and go for to see how the garden proceed to develop next class !
