The Earth ’s has a tilt of 23.5 degree off perpendicular bloc ( vertical would be from North Pole to South Pole . ) This give us our season . In the winter the sunlight is furthest off from us here in the Northern Hemisphere and in the summer ( Summer Solstice ) it is closest to us as as the earth is tilted either away or towards the Dominicus . The Lord’s Day still rises in the east and sets in the Occident , it ’s the angle that switch .
The most direct sunlight shift between a band of latitudes , specifically between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropical of Capricorn , throughout the year , with it closest to the Tropic of Capricorn on Winter Solstice .
Here in Santa Fe , as a nurseryman , I always notice how far in the south the sun is in winter and how far northwards the Lord’s Day is in the summer . This orientation affects how and where we implant our craw . And although most of us are not growing crop in the wintertime , it is good to take down where the sun is for us .
We have a passive solar home where the Dominicus comes in our southerly windows all winter , heating our tile floor and providing additional warmth but in the summer the angle of the Lord’s Day shifts northerly , shining in our north facing window and the south side of the home appease cooler not receive any sun on our floors .
Many countries have celebrations surrounding Winter Solstice.
Pagan Traditions
Pagan custom in parts of Europe celebrated the solstice through gatherings like the Germanic Yuletide , where the Wild Hunt was believe to roam the skies . North Germanic language honour the Norse god Odin during the festival of Jul ( Yule ) .
Indigenous Traditions
Indigenous cultures , such as the Inuit and various Native American tribes , had ceremonial occasion and rituals splice to the solstice . These often involve storytelling , drumming , and ceremony to respect the change of seasons and the renewal of life .
While it ’s benighted , the day also marks the “ refund of the Sunday , ” and many celebrate the day as a emblematic time of rebirth or a time to celebrate light .
I look ahead to longer daylight and habituate this clock time to restore myself and muse on my garden and plan the newfangled gardening season .
