Your Back-To-School (Gardening) Shopping List

Shopping for school? Remember to get a few things for you and your garden.

When I was a son ( even before I found horticulture ) , Ilovedthe commencement of every new school year . Why ? It may seem uncanny , but I loved going to get new schooltime supplies . The smell of new pencils , erasers and gum captivated me . While I do n’t have any children to exit this custom off to , I can still appreciate the renewed spirit that the start of the shoal year make for . After all , it almost coincides with Fall garden planting for some of us .

So it come as no surprisal when I recall to myself … “ since many of my gullible - thumbed comrades will be spending a honest amount of time in stores , arm with their shoal - provided list , why not do some garden shopping at the same fourth dimension ? ”

So without further ado , here ’s a evoke garden shopping inclination , divided into “ departments ” .

The Store Entrance:• Weekly advertising circulars – grab a few for your worm bin , as long as it ’s the uncoated newsprint type store .

School & Office Supplies:• Pens or permanent markers – for labeling plant marking , spray bottles , germ packets , etc.• Graph composition – for laying out your Fall or Spring garden plans.• Ruler – you want decent straight boxes and rows on your garden programme , right?• Notebooks – the small sac - sized one are neat for taking notes while in the garden or bringing to the nursery , home plate kernel , etc.• Scissors – mess of stuff to cut , so get a decent pair.• Yellow poster panel / structure paper – spray some tree diagram tanglefoot on there , and you ’ve got a wing pest lure.• Popsicle stick – great as labels for organ transplant , source flats , or in - garden seam planting .

Hardware:• Hobby / utility knife – cutting bowed stringed instrument , fabric , purse , plastic mulch , etc.• Linseed oil – for continue and maintaining your garden tools .

Housewares:• Plastic baggies / paper lunch bags – hold mailboat of seeds , dirt to be tested , and of path ; for distributing your harvest to Quaker , neighbors and food banks• Plastic Tupperware - style containers – store seeds , soil amendment , bulbs , tools , etc.• Cooking knife – for removing or chop up up plant life matter bound for the compost pile.• Towels – for wet cleanups.• Colander – for washing your fresh - harvest veggies prior to bringing them in spite of appearance

cleaning lady ’s or Men’s:• Socks – If you ’re like me , having a few pairs around does n’t seem like enough.• Clogs – Is n’t it time for a new brace ?

Grocery:• Bottled water or refillable urine containers – to keep you hydrous as you sour . Save the larger one - gallon container as mini “ hot houses ” during the winter.• Coffee – Probably already on your regular shopping tilt . The grounds from which have multiple uses in the garden and compost area.• Coffee Filters – Also compostable .

Pharmacy:• Insect repellant – If natural methods fail you , there ’s always the commercial-grade atomizer and lotions.• Sunscreen – No sunburns allowed onmywatch!• Hand sanitizer – break without read with what we get our paw into .

Warehouse:• Boxes – for new planting areas or for your worm bin .

I ’m sure I did n’t cover everything , but it ’s a good start .
